Biltong
The best meat is on the buttocks… Biltong is meat that has been marinated and dried according to South African tradition. The name might seem a bit strange, but it has nothing to do with a tongue.
It indicates that it is meat from the buttock and cut into strips, which gives the shape of a tongue.
Biltong is made in South Africa from various types of meat. Sunbury Biltong and Droëwors is made from the tastiest beef.
droëwors
Just like the Biltong, the Droëwors is very popular South African, based on the traditional “Boerewors” seasoned with coriander seeds.
Droëwors means “dried sausage” in Afrikaans. Our Sunbury Droëwors is a deliciously dried meat snack, infused with various herbs and spices. We use a unique combination of ingredients based on a traditional South African recipe. This makes our Droëwors full of natural food and taste.
Spicy recipe
It has taken a lot of effort to find the right recipe, but the result is impressive! Sunbury Biltong and Droëwors is traditionally seasoned and prepared in the Netherlands. We use the best quality meat, herbs, and spices. The choice of high-quality meat ensures an optimal taste experience.
The sliced Biltong is placed in a spice mixture for several hours. When the herbs are well-absorbed, the pieces are ready to be hanged. After about 8 days in the specially equipped climate room, the Sunbury Biltong is ready for consumption!
The Droëwors is full of authentic herbs and spices and is traditionally prepared with beef. When the herbs and meat are prepared, the Droëwors is hung up and naturally dried.
A long history...
Unlike the famous Beef Jerkey, which has its origins in South America, the Biltong is a delicacy created by the Dutch, who settled in South Africa from the VOC in 1652.
During the migration of many Dutch families from the Cape to the inland of South Africa in 1830, the Droëwors and Biltong were indispensable food on their long journey. Over the centuries, these dried meat products have become the most popular delicacies!

Preservation tips
In Europe, the humidity conditions are higher than those of South Africa. That is why it is important that the Biltong is stored correctly. It is best that you immediately put the Biltong in the refrigerator. Do not seal it with plastic or foil and do not put it together. If you want the Biltong to be a little dryer, place it outside the refrigerator in a place where the air circulates or ventilates well. Never store or transport Biltong in a plastic bag, rather use a paper bag that will keep it dry.
